If you're going to Burlington to visit colleges stop here for breakfast. Pancakes are excellent and maple syrup appears to be processed on premise. Good taste of the locals too!

This is the quintessential Central Vermont breakfast eatery. This place is a breakfast icon- grew up going here! This is the place to take your out of town friends to get all "Vermonty". Overall great breakfast food, inexpensive & large portions. Any trip to central Vermont is not complete without a pit-stop at Eaton's Sugarhouse. Cheers!

I'm giving this place 5 stars on the basis of being a great place to eat while visiting South Royalton. It's very similar to a Cracker Barrel in that it has a gift shop and waiting area replete with a checkers board, but this place has an even more rustic and kitschy feel. The tables and benches are lacquered logs that are actually quite uncomfortable, but the food more than made up for it. The pancakes are delicious and definitely homemade, as the not-perfectly-circular shape will attest. The coffee was strong and befitting the mountain men who felled the log tables. Also, you can buy a gallon of Vermont maple syrup!

Best pancakes in the world, hands down!!!! I usually get the apple spice, but they are all top notch. Late one morning after a long night out I ordered a maple milkshake for the table to share, and it was incredible. Pumpkin panckaes in the fall are also wonderful. This place is a sugar house, pancakes and waffles are what you order here. They also make donuts fresh, but I've only had one bite of one as I save my appetite for the pancakes. This is a local, small town spot. They get busy, don't expect the tables to be turned like an Applebee's or an IHOP. (Two culinary locations I refuse to eat at.) Pancake nirvana, I kid you not!

Sooo glad we stopped here!! We got breakfast to-go the morning of our last day in Vermont. Great spot, clearly well-liked because the parking lot was so full and it wasn't even 11 AM yet. The pancakes are huge and we 3 two-stacks for 4 people. Perfect amount. We got the raspberry chocolate chip, apples and spice, and blueberry. Wasn't a huge fan of the blueberry but I also don't enjoy blueberries in general. Loooved the raspberry chocolate chip!! They gave us butter and some amazing maple syrup on the side. There was a cute gift store to browse while waiting for our food. Usually, I get some maple candy when I'm in New England (and I did this time as well), but I also got some of the maple hard candy. In my opinion, better than the normal maple candy (the softish yellow ones) because it's less sweet and tastes better. Also picked up root beer made by the restaurant, they also had other flavors of soda that looked good. Overall, very enjoyable experience. If I ever find myself in the area again, hope to be able to eat in the restaurant!

Great prices for such huge plates. Went twice on our weekend trip to VT and had great, fast service both times. The pancakes are HUGE, the size of your plate. I ended up having the Sugar House Special and it was out of this world. Two eggs made the way you like them (over easy for me), home fries that were golden brown and had a slight crunch to them, two slices of homemade bread, toasted and either two sausage links or four strips of bacon. Food was hot, made to my liking and it tasted wonderful. I had no complaints at all, compared to places like Denny's which always makes my stuff wrong or it's cold when I get it. The teenager had the Chocolate Chip Pancake (1) and 4 bacon strips and she was full but loved it. She stated that it had the right about of chocolate chips and was made perfect. Wait staff was on point, very tentative and made sure our coffee and drinks were always topped off. All staff and guest were friendly (like most Vermonters) and we never had to wait on a table, even though they were busy. Make sure to "mark" your hometown on their map before you leave and pick up a few VT things in their gift shop. This place is a must stop for breakfast for anyone coming through the area, don't let the outside fool you, it make look run down but the inside is not!

You always stumble upon the best places accidentally. The first time I was very hungry while driving through Royalton, VT and there were a lot of cars outside this parking lot, so my friend convinced me to check it out (even though it looked really scary from the outside.) WOW! It may've been because I was super hungry, but I had an absolutely delicious grilled cheese. Unfortunately, the fruit cup wasn't good; you could tell it wasn't fresh. I told my friends about it a few months later, and we all decided to take the 1.5 hour drive to have brunch. Was it worth it? Probably not. Was it fun? You bet! I probably shouldn't do it again, but I most likely will. Beware: the wait can be rather long on the weekends.

Eaton's Sugar House is a local legend. Located in Royalton, VT, one of the several dozen towns that dot the Vermont country and mountains, Eaton's looks unremarkable--if not downright dumpy--from the outside. In fact, you probably wouldn't notice at all if it weren't for the full parking lot on Saturday mornings. Inside, you have to walk through a weird little hallway, and you are dumped into a Cracker Barrel-esque store (this is more authentic since it's not a chain...). Getting our name on the wait list was a struggle, since it seemed like the hostess was also working the cash register... it just wasn't a good system. A solid 25 or so minutes after we walked in the door, we were seated at a table... looking out the window into the Vermont hills. I ordered a chocolate chip pancake, and while I'm no pancake expert (I normally choose savory over sweet breakfast if given the choice), I don't really recall ever having a better tasting pancake. I mean it was really freaking good. They also have eggs and meat to, to round out your food groups. The food is cheap-- a single pancake, which filled me up--is just a few bucks. One thing that struck me about the restaurant was how many different types of people were there, a testament to its legacy: Truckers, some waspy couple on a brunch date, a group of Mormon elders, a big Korean family, and some bikers in Harley-branded leather. I'll definitely have to be back, I want to try out all of their pancake flavors!

This place, however unusual looking from the outside, is my favorite breakfast spot in NH/VT. Their pancakes are the best I've ever had, and they serve them all day. Highly recommended and quite affordable.

Void of the feeling that this is a local institution - I'm not from around there - I found this to be a quaint, cheap, and decent breakfast place. The bacon and pancakes stood out as very good. Really the only drawback was how slow it all was, but I didn't expect much other than that in Royalton. Would visit again.

MUST visit if you're in the area! Cute little store attached to the restaurant. Best things to order: raspberry chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. The outside made it seem like it may be closed-but so glad we gave it a try!

This my favorite spot in the Upper Valley for breakfast, and a total guilty pleasure. I used to drive approximately 30 minutes on the occasional weekend ( more than I should have!) just for their super yummy breakfast. The main reasons for going are the pancakes, on the premises made maple syrup, and delicious home fries. All of those items are great. They have different options for your pancakes like blueberry, chocolate raspberry, and apple/walnut. The home fries are crispy always fresh out of the fryer and have a nice spicy kick to them. They taste like the Spanish potatoes ( Patas Bravas ) you would get from a tapas restaurant-- minus the sauce. Just make sure you go hungry because the portions are large and it tastes so good you will probably find yourself finishing it all! Also it is very busy on weekends and mornings so be prepared for a bit of a wait. If you do happen to go there during a rush they have a country gift shop with Vermont themed items to poke around and pass the time while you wait. It feels very local and authentic inside and is worth the trip.

Don't let the outside of the place scare you away. OMG!! The choc chip pancakes are amazing. No need for the syrup. We could only eat 1 1/2 pancakes. They are huge!

This place exudes charm, though the service is iffy. Who cares, though. Time slows here. I've been here more times than I can count on my fingers and toes. Order anything. It's not going to be a gourmet brunch but pretty much everything they make is homey and comforting. My one complaint is that the wait staff is kind of spacey. While you're waiting to be seated you can play a game of giant checkers or check out their gift shop. It's full of oddities. They also sell maple syrup and other Vermont-y products.

An inexpensive diner / meat & 3. Haven't tried the breakfast, but the food I did have was above average. Like many things in rural Vermont, I wouldn't expect to be wowed by anything in particular, but overall the food and service was good enough to warrant another visit. I found the map where you can pin where you are from to be interesting. Not too many of us Alabamians have made it to Eaton's.

This is a local staple. The apple spice pancakes are extraordinary, but the chocolate raspberry are nothing to scoff at either. If you're there in the right season, get the pumpkin pancakes for sure. I've been going to the Sugar House for years. Never disappointed. Remember, it's nothing fancy--just hearty breakfast food, solidly made, with better-than-average pancakes and a welcoming, homey ambiance.

Not impressed....waitress took about ten minutes to take our order after seating us and then, when I said thank you for my coffee, got a bafflingly insincere "yer welcome". Not sure what I did to deserve such a sarcastic comeback but I got it several times. Weird, and unpleasant. Am told service across Vermont is generally bad but that doesn't make it ok. Food was good though, if standard enough breakfast fare. On the whole, would rather drive the extra 20 mins from south royalton (if I'm ever there again) to the Farmer's Deli. Better food, and better (if no faster) service.
